From Two Self-Contained Tables to Four
P&J were first contacted by Funky Chunky Furniture in 2019 when they required help and support in providing a much-needed improvement on their existing extraction system.
Funky Chunky Furniture are a direct-to-consumer furniture manufacturer based in the North East of England. Their range of solid wood furniture, shelves and mantels is available to customers across the UK and into Europe. Every item is handmade and designed to last a lifetime.
Due to growth and demand, Funky Chunky Furniture’s existing extraction system had become dated and deemed unsuitable for the effective control of dust in the workshop. Given the well-documented health effects from dust and our ethos to provide safer environments for workers, we were glad to assist and guide Funky Chunky on the appliance that would be right for them.
P&J recommended and supplied two self-contained tables with a working area of 2 metre x 1 metre. The measured face velocity is approximately1.5 m/s giving an approximate air volume of 3m3/s.
The unit is fitted with a filter shake mechanism to ensure extended filter life and waste is collected in drawers which can be easily emptied. The unit is self-contained, air is vented from the rear of the machine to discharge through an outside wall to the atmosphere in a safe area, we will supply suitable ducting.

The positive feedback from Kevin, coupled with the efficiency of the downdraft tables, and a surge in manufacturing demands equated to an order of a further two downdraft tables in November 2020, bringing the total number of tables P&J have provided to four.
Funky Chunky Furniture and the team at P&J worked together to guarantee they met all their statutory H&S obligations whilst ensuring they have an adequate downdraft tables in place to sustain future growth.
