The Institute of Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineers (ILEVE) has been established to promote air quality in the workplace and to reduce ill health and death due to airborne contamination and hazardous substances in the working environment.

 

ILEVE is the professional body for individuals not companies or organisations so membership is held by individual employees who are active in the LEV industry.  ILEVE is affiliated to the Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE) and provides competency accreditation for Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineers. The HSE state in HSG258 that professional competence in LEV design, commissioning and test is demonstrated by qualifications through CIBSE and ILEVE.

 

All of P&J’s design team, technical sales team and LEV engineers who carry out Occupational Hygiene Surveys and Personal Sampling, LEV Design, LEV Installation Management, LEV Commissioning, LEV Thorough Examination & Test have been assessed by ILEVE and hold the relevant ILEVE competency cards and professional membership grade.

• Principles of Occupational Hygiene

• System Design

• Installation Management

• Commissioning

• Thorough Examination & Testing

ILEVE was created to recognise competence in the practical application of local exhaust ventilation and to raise awareness of the importance of good air quality and ventilation in workplaces and it is supported by the HSE. Judith Hackett, chair of the HSE commented at ILEVE’s first AGM “the formation of ILEVE is the first step to achieving the goal of improved competence for the lev industry.”

 

ILEVE is to provide safely controlled working environments, free from harmful airborne contaminants by:

• Providing its members and the public with first class information

• Providing a career path for Engineers in Local Exhaust Ventilation to full professional Registration.

• Maintaining and Enhancing professional excellence throughout by developing and accrediting courses of study

• Providing a membership designation FILEVE, MILEVE, AILEVE etc. as a credential giving others evidence of demonstrated knowledge and skills

• Setting the criteria for best practice in the profession

• Speaking for and representing the profession

 

P&J are fully supportive of ILEVE and require all technical grades of staff to be ILEVE members as a condition of employment and to offer independent verification of their competency to our clients. Our managing director Jane Bastow CMIOSH, MILEVE was an active industry partner of HSE in the development of the HSE LEV industry project which led to the formation of ILEVE. In May 2016, Jane was elected as the chair of ILEVE.
